No pornographic content on Tumblr
In a blog post the website Tumblr announced that from 17 December pornographic content will be banned on the site and apps of the company. Forbidden material now concerns photographs, videos and gifs of human genitals, female nipples and all sorts of other media in which sex is presented, such as illustrations. Exceptions are made for classical statues and protests where nude is used to make a point. Texts may still have a pornographic nature.
Users may also place drawings and other forms of art with nude images, as long as sexual acts are not shown. Photos of breastfeeding are also allowed. After 17 December, new pornographic images will be automatically removed by an algorithm. Existing images are provisionally placed in private mode so that they can not be shared on the platform. Posters of these images are now being notified of the change via e-mail.
Users still have the right to reverse the decision to remove content, as Tumblr indicates that such an automated system will undoubtedly will make mistakes and also want to remove permissible content. If you want to use another platform now, you can export your content via the website. Existing blogs with pornographic content may still remain, but will be heavily censored. With this step, Tumblr should become a safe environment.
